Case study · AI agents & voice front office
A front office that never misses a call
Local trades lose work to the phone. MorphStreet answers as the business, books the job on a real calendar, and follows through — with nothing for the owner to run.
The problem
Owner-operated home-service businesses — plumbers, electricians, HVAC techs, garage-door and appliance repair — win the next job from the next call. But the person who should answer is under a sink, on a ladder or driving. Most of those calls go to voicemail, and most callers who hit voicemail do not call back; they dial the next name on Google. The national chains are not better at the work. They just have a front office that never misses.
The existing options do not fit. An answering service takes a message, which still leaves the owner to call back and book. A field-service platform gives the owner a dashboard to run, which is another job on top of the real one.
What we built
MorphStreet is a done-for-you front office. It sits behind the business’s existing phone number and catches only the calls the owner can’t get to. It picks up as the business, in English or Spanish, understands what the caller needs, checks real availability and service area, books the job into an actual time slot, and notifies the owner immediately. Customers get a confirmation and a reminder by text and can confirm, reschedule or cancel by reply, with no app and no login. If a call reaches something the AI should not decide, it hands off to a real person rather than leaving the caller at a dead end.
Around the front office sits the rest of the presence a small business needs: a fast, modern website built from the business’s real reviews and services for owners who do not have one, or a hosted booking page and embeddable widget for owners who want to keep the site they have.
How it works
The loop runs from the first ring to the finished job. Answering, booking and owner notification are live today; text confirmations switch on once the business’s text-message registration clears; on-the-way updates and automatic review requests are next. The owner operates none of it.
Design decisions
Book, don’t message. The single most important product decision. A message still costs the owner a call-back and a lost evening; a booked slot is revenue. Everything else in the product exists to make that booking trustworthy: real availability, real service area, instant owner visibility.
Nothing changes for the owner. No new number, no new system to learn. MorphStreet is a net under the line the owner already has. Adoption fails when it asks a busy tradesperson to change habits; this asks them to change nothing.
A human is always reachable. The agent is designed to know the edge of what it should decide. Pricing disputes, unusual jobs, anything ambiguous — it reaches the owner instead of guessing.
The customer owns everything. Number, website, customer list. Cancel and it all leaves with them. For a small business, lock-in is a reason not to buy; ownership is a reason to trust.
Bilingual from day one. In the markets MorphStreet serves, answering only in English means missing a meaningful share of callers.
Outcome
MorphStreet is live and onboarding its founding cohort of home-service businesses. Anyone can hear the AI answer a call right now on morphstreet.com, in either language, before deciding anything.
What we learned
The hard part of a voice agent is not the conversation; it is the follow-through. An agent that sounds good and then drops the booking is worse than voicemail, because the customer believes something happened. Building the scheduling, confirmation and hand-off behavior took more care than the voice itself, and it is where the product earns trust.
What this means for your project
If your business or your customers lose value at the moment a phone rings unanswered — intake, scheduling, triage, after-hours coverage — this is the pattern: an agent that takes a real action inside your calendar or system, tells a human what it did, and knows when to stop. We have built and run it end to end.
